Found throughout the UK, Denmark and Sweden south of Gothenburg. Furthur north is not so common.

 

Indigenous to the Mediterranean, Thyme was probably introduced to to northern Europe by the Romans. The essential oil was used as an antiseptic, at least up until the 1920s.

 

The Egyptians used Thyme oil in enbalming, possibly because of effect of the antibacterial properties.

 

Has been used for diarrhoea, bronchitis, asthma, whooping cough, sinusitis and digestive problems. You could also use it to flavour your food!
